The Top 20 Biggest Singles Of 1940
Chart notes: The charts for 1940 were "retro-calculated" from playlists provided by some of the major radio stations in Australia at the time. Due to the rarity of the information, the Kent charts were compiled as a monthly list. For most song entries, there were multiple artists for each. David Kent's The Australian Top 20 Book 1940-2006 states up to two artists for these entries, however, further reading in his Australian Chart Book 1940-1969 found sometimes more than two overall, for such entries. "The Woodpecker Song" had 8 artists registered over the two books, which have all been included here.
